Hello again, my loves! How are we all doing this April? I feel rather sad that we’ve lost the sun again in the North of the UK, but I’m crossing all my fingers and toes that the April showers won’t last too long…
So, let’s keep our spirits up by celebrating the fact that I have another creative demo video to share with you guys! This time around, I’m sharing my sketchbook process for a fun little study on some cute mice characters. Why mice, you ask? Well, in the video, I talk about how researching various topics online eventually led me to a photo that sparked something in me and inspired these sketches. Sometimes your heart leads you in a certain direction… and you just have to follow! I’d love to practise drawing animals more until I feel confident enough to venture down the anthropomorphic route (animals in human form), which is something I’m yet to tackle in my style. The fun part is you get to join me on this journey as I figure that out!
And to kick off this deep dive into all things mousey… of course I have to share my sketchbook pages with you! Before watching the video- enjoy these pages below.
In the video, you’ll see the research material I gathered, my inner thoughts whilst scribbling away, the things that worked, and those that— well— didn’t! Sometimes I wrestle with uncertainty - and of course, all those natural human feelings like tiredness and panic-drawing! But you’ll see in the video how I handle those moments when they pop up. Here, you’ll also have access to the imagery I was inspired by, as well as the art materials I used. All of these sketches finally lead to a chosen illustration, which I’d love to paint with you soon.
Feel free to curl up in a cosy spot and draw along with me - or just watch for fun. It brings me so much joy to know that you’re inspired to get creative, or simply enjoy the process as a viewer. So without further ado… let’s dive in!
